| A drawing of the small tent I had been living in. |
While foraging today I happened upon this little notebook and figure that if human society ever does get back on its feet, I will be long gone and this journal might be some of the only texts to come from this horrible time in our species' history.
I will attempt to get you up to speed quickly with where I am and tell you a little about what has transpired in my time before this entry so that my future entries will be about more current events.
I will start off by saying it's going to be hard to even explain what happened, because to be honest I am not even sure how we got here. Not to mention that early in my time in the wild I was attacked by a band of survivors in the night. Hit in the head with a large rock and robbed for the small amount of food and clothing I had. I was surprised at first of the animosity directed at another human being, but in the end I do understand. The constant stress of survival weighs on you mentally and one often act with animal instinct. Many have lost touch with their human side.
I healed well enough but have a hard time remember what happened before that, and many parts of my life even before whatever happened are missing as well. This is perhaps the most frustrating part of the attack. Those memories were all that I had, and they were taken from me.
It took me nearly a week after that incident to clear my head. Luckily I had stored up some supplies and was staying in a relatively safe place in some very rocky terrain at the base of a large mountain. My assailants attacked me when I was out foraging, and left me for dead, which left me able to make my way home, without them following me.
It was only a short time later that I was discovered by another small band, but this time, before there was any serious interaction I decided it best to leave instead of risk another run like the rest.
By my estimates this was nearly a month ago now and I have now grouped up with three other survivors, and we were doing pretty well for ourselves. I will tell you the 'were' story in my next entry. We have moved into a valley, we call 'Resource Valley'. We call it this, mostly because everything we need is only a short distance away from us. It's also a safe zone as we have searched a long way in every direction with no sign of the zombies. You can never forget about them since they do wander quite a bit, but without current camp setup, we should see them coming a long way off.
After only writing for a short time, I can see this is going to be good for me. I feel like I am finally talking to someone about all of this. So I guess I will keep it that way, and formally say Goodnight. I will talk to you again tomorrow night.
